Battal Gazi Destani (1971)

Trivia

Battal Gazi Destani

Edit
This is the first of four movies in The Battal Gazi franchise.
Battal Gazi or Seyyid Battal Ghazi was a pre-Turkish Seljuk warrior based out of Anatolia Turkey, in the city of Malatya, where his father, Hüseyin Gazi, was the ruler(Serdar). His legends are based on the real-life exploits of the 8th-century Umayyad military leader Abdallah al-Battal. The legends surrounding his real life history is the information available on the historic personality, later becoming an important part of Turkish folklore literature.
Cuneyt Arkin portrays two roles in this movie. He plays both Hussein Gazi and Battal Gazi. In two of the later films in the Battal Gazi franchise he again portrays two generations of Battal Gazi, in both Savulun Battal Gazi Geliyor(Battal Gazi and Seit Gazi) and Battal Gazinin Oglu(Battal Gazi and the Son of Battal).
The early scenes of the movie portraying the Court of the Serdar of Malatya were shot at the Istanbul Archaeology Museum, the Tiled Kiosk (Cinili Kösk). The following scenes were Hussein Gazi meets his son Cafer were shot in Eskisehir. Later scenes when Battal meets Elenora were also shot in and around the Istanbul Archaeology Museum, the Tiled Kiosk. Keen fans will recognize the statues and the late Byzantine remains.
