Many of the sound effects used in this show ended up being used in future Mark Goodson Television Productions shows (the one used for its first round answers was later used on Classic Concentration (1987); another one used for its answers would later be used on Family Feud (1988) as the one for its Fast Money answers; the one used for its wrong answers was later used on The Price is Right (1972) as the one for wrong choices in its "Pathfinder" game).
Trivia Trap was the last Mark Goodson Production show that was an original idea and not a revival of a previous format. Mark Goodson Productions later did some pilots for original shows (eg. On a Roll, TKO), but those never picked up for broadcast.
"Trivia Trap" is the first show Bob Eubanks hosted for Mark Goodson Productions. Mark Goodson didn't like Chuck Barris, who produced The Newlywed Game (1966) famously hosted by Eubanks, and so anyone that associated with Barris, Goodson didn't like. One night at the airport, Eubanks met Goodson's attorney and mentioned that Goodson won't even give him an audition to host a show. The attorney said, 'he'll take care of that' and when "Trivia Trap" came along, Eubanks got an audition and was chosen to host the show.
The emergence of the board game Trivial Pursuit, which was a very popular game at the time, led to Mark Goodson deciding to develop his own trivia game with "Trivia Trap" which ABC decided to green light and pick up the show for broadcast.
