The film's Chinese title, "San Tong Saan Daai Hing" / "Xin Tang Shan Da Xiong" is a play on the Chinese title of the Bruce Lee film, The Big Boss ("Tong Saan Daai Hing"/"Tang Shan Da Xiong"). While the literal translation for this film would be "The New Big Brother From Tongsaan/Tangshan", this doesn't quite make sense as Donnie Yen's character (who is from Shanghai) is named "Tong Saan" rather than being from the province in northeast Hebei of the same name. Ironically, Yen's earlier directorial effort, Legend of the Wolf, was known in some international territories as "The New Big Boss" and even "Big Boss '97" in Japan.
