There was fierce competition between Wham! and Queen to become the first Western pop/rock act to perform in Communist China. Wham! management won by sending Chinese officials photos of Queen singer Freddie Mercury onstage shirtless and in flamboyant poses, while promoting their guys as wholesome and family-friendly.
First shown at Wembley Stadium in London on June 28, 1986, on large video screens to 72,000 spectators. This set a record for the largest audience for a movie premiere.
