Saramandaia (1976)

Trivia

Saramandaia

Edit
Dias Gomes ironically refused to refer to his unusual characters as "magical" or "fantastic". He stated, "I can't see anything magical in that. [...] My so-called 'magic realism' doesn't have anything sophisticated. Its own starting point in popularity dismisses such view. I based this work on the Brazilian Northeastern poetry of Cordel."
Dias Gomes reworked the character of Aristobulo the werewolf as professor Astromar (again a werewolf) on Roque Santeiro (1985).
Walter Negrão had difficulties with filming the famous sequence that Ms. Redonda explodes, due to poor special effect techniques at the time of production. Thus, the crew placed a balloon under Wilza Carla's dress. Another balloon dressed with her clothing was used for the blowing out sequences.
Dias Gomes finished the last script with a message for the cast and crew: "While you read this chapter, I'll be flying. Not with my own wings, however, like Gibão, but on the wings of a G-10. My sincere thanks and my warm standing ovation to everyone who's been part of it. See you soon. Dias Gomes."
Dias Gomes stated that this was his favorite show that he had created and written, although not the best produced since it "required a lot of special effects, something that television would have developed only decades later".
