Many of the 1960s and early 1970s editions are believed to be lost. Of the 263 episodes making up the first eight series only seven are known to be in existence. These are Series 2: Episode 3, Series 4: Episodes 5 and 38, Series 5: Episodes 3-4, Series 8: Episodes 15-16. The remainder of the show still exists in the BBC Archives.
Legend has it that while pronouncing the word "kerseymere" (a twilled woolen cloth), Robert Robinson's two front false teeth flew out and onto his desk.
As they never rose from their seats on the show, many viewers were unaware that Frank Muir was
6 foot 6 inches tall, and Patrick Campbell 6 foot 5 inches.
Words had to have appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary to be used in the show.
