Kulbushan Kharbanda was replaced by Mahesh Bhatt.
After Sheeshay Ka Ghar, Amit Khanna was making another film titled Unt with Raj Babbar and Smita Patio, but the film was not released and Amit Khanna had also completed producer Kuljit Pal's Ashiana with Mark Zuber and Deepti Naval, which Mahesh Bhatt had left the film incomplete.
Rati Agnihothri was upset with Amit Khanna for not signing her for the film. She kept insisting she be signed. Amit signed Padmini due to feeling she suited the character more.
Neena Gupta was offered the film but refused. Soni Razdan was then signed.
