Rights to the recordings on the soundtrack were not obtained, so the songs were replaced with new songs or cover versions. However, many of the original introductions remain.
The original title for the film was Desperate Teenage Runaways. Producer Kim Fowley who owned the name of the all-girl rock band The Runaways made director David Markey change it (because of the similarities).
