    Great movie with great music

Superb movie to watch from Mollywood. Musical based movie starring Mohanlal and Nedumudi Venu in lead role.

    Simply out of the world!

When I was a child my favorite song was "Pramadhavanam", but I never got around to seeing the movie then, but now I finally see it and it totally blew my mind, soul and heart away ! Amazing plot set in the uniquely traditional royal Hindu family of Kerala with Matrilinear families and the related issues. Bring into that a hired Muslim assassin pretending to be a Brahmin singer and you have the ultimate plot. Set Mohanlal as the assassin and the Film is set to be a hit. Finally bring in the magic voice of Yesudas and voilà, this wonder is made !

A must see for any Keralite and for anyone who understands Malayalam. If not, see it with subtitles although I doubt English ones are available or even if available will convey the same feel.

I can't believe it just has one review but then again... mallu movies are not exactly the thing for IMDb users :P

One of the "must see" movies.

This is the first time I am writing a commentary and only because I haven't seen any other comments. This is one of the BEST movies by Mohanlal. The casting is excellent, the acting is superb, and the music is extraordinary.

The story is gripping from the start: It contains a blend of comedy, sadness, and fighting. The best part of the movie is the music duel between Mohanlal and Kaithapram (one of the greatest musicians from India). It is 8 minutes long and by the end, you will have tears in your eyes because of the songs beauty and exquisiteness.

I don't want to give away any part of the story as it is worth watching. Each actor contributes his best to the movie and made it a hit in theaters.

I hope you watch it soon and enjoy acting and singing as it was meant to be. :)

    His Highness Abdulla

It is another superb movie from Mohanlal, and Nedumudi Venu. It has a good story plot, songs, natural acting talent and excellent technical skill. The songs, especially 'Pramadavanam' have become all time favourites. It also shows the real broad minded views of Kerala Hindus, transcending religion. I am honored to be from a Christian and Hindu background and can understand the message the film tries to convey about broad mindedness, which is the guiding principle of Indian philosophy. We need more of such superb movies with substance. On a personal basis it an honor to a be a family friend of Mohanlal.

Malayil-Lohithadas-Mohanlal trio confer a family entertainer with drama, comedy and Indian Classical Music.

His Highness Abdullah (1990) : Brief Review -

Malayil-Lohithadas-Mohanlal trio confer a family entertainer with drama, comedy and Indian Classical Music. His Highness was the same trio's first film in a trilogy of Indian classical arts films, followed by Bharatham (1991) and Kamaladalam (1992). While Bharatam was way ahead in content, His Highness Abdullah is more like a commerical entertainer than a content oriented product. The film has a simple story copied from 60s and 70s Masala Movies but adds a new flavour of Indian Classical Music to make it Melodious. A qawwali singer, Abdullah, passes as a Brahmin Singer from a reputed family in order to infiltrate a palace and kill the king but ends up saving him. It's a good story but very predictable. Someone like Lohithadas who had already written couple of Great Classics before this, could have easily done much better. That shortcoming has to be mentioned because he is not an ordinary writer. The same script might have been termed as better for someone else but the expectations were higher from Lohithadas, that's why. Mohanlal and Nedumudi Venu are paired up so well in this film. Not just as actors but i meant the characters and those situations too. Both of them look very fine in their roles and the supporting cast is nice too. The most lovable supporting character here is Mamukkoya. How funny he was in the film. The most funniest character among the big cast. His Highness Abdullah has a great music. I don't understand Malayalam Language but all those compositions sounded very sweet to my ears. I enjoyed it even with subtitles. Sibi Malayil has crafted this film in light tone, maybe that's the best thing he could have done with this predictable script. But overall, it's a very good entertainer for family audience. Just don't expect too much as you would expect from this Trio.
