It was stated that Amitabh's mother Teji Bachchan was a fan of I.S.Johar and would send him home made pickle's. Amitabh too would regularly send him flowers. All this stopped when I.S.Johar launched Nasbandi with a Amitabh look a like.
Kalpana Iyer was angry about signing the film. She signed the project with the promise that it would lead to bigger things. She did not realize how small her role would turn out. Plus she was labeled the new girl in I.S. Johar's life when that was not true. Kalpana wished her role was completely edited out of the film.
Hamen Toh Maar Diya Kashti Topiwalon Ne
The tune and lyrics of this song were adapted from the popular qawwali "Hamen To Loot Liya" ("Al-Hilal", 1958). The original song was composed by Bulo C. Rani, written by Shewan Rizvi and sung by Ismail Azad.
I.S. Johar launched this film as a protest against the Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975. It targetted the government's forced sterilization drives specifically. The film was banned during the Emergency. Its audio records were issued after the Emergency ended in 1977 and the film itself was released in 1978.
Kahan Gayi Woh Teri Ahinsa (Gandhi Tere Desh Mein Yeh Kaisa Atyachar)
Kishore Kumar was banned from All India Radio during the Emergency after he refused to perform at a Congress rally in Mumbai. This song, about the dark days of the Emergency, was his way of speaking out against its perpetrators. Ironically, the last stanza of the song, which mentioned the names of some of the key politicians who fought against the Emergency, was censored out of the film. Of all the politicians mentioned - Jaiprakash, Vijaylakshmi Pandit, Raj Narain, Jagjivan Ram, George Fernandes, Morarji, Charan Singh, Chandrashekhar, Atal Bihari, Advani, and Nana - only the line featuring Jaiprakash Narayan was retained in the film.
