Jorge Enrique Abello and Ana María Orozco in Yo soy Betty, la fea (1999)

Trivia

Yo soy Betty, la fea

Edit
Holds the Guinness World record of the most successful telenovela in television history and is also one of the longest running telenovelas with two years on the air.
Fearing competition and high ratings, prominent Brazilian channel Rede Globo bought the rights to this series only to prevent SBT from airing it in 2000. Globo also considered remaking it, which is unusual for the channel since the 60s. The series was, however, bought and aired by RedeTV! in 2003, while SBT later aired the Mexican remake La fea más bella (2006).
Betty's house exists and is located in Bogotá. Its owners know that it is a real tourist attraction and that is why they decided not to change the facade.
Brazilian actress Taís Araújo guest stars in an episode mostly because her telenovela Xica da Silva (1996) became a huge hit in Colombia.
So far, it has 28 adaptations around the world.
