    Great game for its time!

Although the screenplay could have been better but at the time I played it got me hooked because of the concept and the story plus the Kilrathi proved to be an interesting alien species! Also the space combat was pretty good, a great game for its time!

Also the missions were pretty good even though the carrier under attack missions would not have had a briefing just a red alert with all pilots rushing to their fighters just like in future games.

Also while slightly stereotypical one of the most interesting characters introduced was Ian 'Hunter' St John who was one of the main characters in the novel 'Freedom Flight' which was the only decent novel I read of the Wing Commander franchise.

Also Kien 'Bossman' Chen was interesting too as was Iceman and Maniac was okay as his character expanded in sequels.

    A True Classic

This game was the best. The story line continued to expand, for better or for worse. It was great to have consequences for not fully completing a mission. This game was ahead of it's time; too bad the original cannot run on modern computers (unless you are very, very quick).

not bad for an old game

in this game you can kill any of you men and get away with it you can even make up your own callsign and the people in the game will call you that. the game is easy at first but this catman Tofy killed me and my wingmen this game is a must play wing commander 2,3,4. is even better

    • Alternate versions
The standard Amiga version of Wing Commander has only 16 colors, as it was released just before the Amiga 1200 which added the 256-color AGA version. Some early demos were made in 32 colors, but the number of colors had to be reduced as the game was too slow on not accelerated Amigas. The only 256-color version is the one bundled with the CD32 system, which also runs on A1200s with CD drives.
