Death of Hitch-Hikers (1979)

Trivia

Death of Hitch-Hikers

Edit
Petr Kostka was originally considered for the part of killer Charvát, eventually played by Marek Perepeczko.
The film was loosely inspired by a real case. It happened on 9 August 1976 near the Slovak village called Zarnovica. The real killer was called Miroslav Somora. The girls in question asked Somora if he would take them to Zilina (nerby town). He first hit his victims in the head with a wrench and then started stabbing them with a knife. He did this with such force that the knife broke in one of the victims. When he had finished his act, he performed a coitus on one of the victims. He buried the corpses in a rubbish dump. Two days later, Somora was arrested by the police. There was no wild chase like in the film. Somora confessed to his actions and did not regret them. He was executed in Prague in 1978.
Marek Perepeczko (Charvát) drives a truck in the film. However, he did not know how to drive it, so during the filming he was just marking the ride and actually sitting in the cab perched on the top of another truck.
The entire film was shot in real exteriors and interiors, with a handheld camera.
