I never knew this movie was a box office failure. Regardless, I still love this movie despite the sad ending. I love the romance and comedy in this movie. Gadha is a glamerous young lady and Lalettan is of course the handsome man. I like the comedy scenes with Lalettan and Mukesh. I also love how Lalettan is the typical flirt. Lalettan's name in this movie is Unnikrishnan (Unni) and he flirts with Gadha who find him to be a nuisance and the funny part is Unni still doesn't give up trying to impress her even after she bluntly tell him that she hates him. Initially, Unni was ploying to catch Professer Kurian Fernandez (Nedumudi Venu) who is also Gadha's father. Professor Fernandez revealed Unni's motives to her. There's this scene that I find cringe in which Gadha angrily confronts him and curses him once she found out that Unni was ploying and then she shouts that she hates him and then runs away crying. That's the worst scene in the movie as I don't like anyone yelling at Lalettan who is the hero. However, Unni eventually comes clean and says that it was his duty as a cop and then he reveals that he didn't plan to fall in love. However, Unni admits his feeling for Gadha and they truly fall in love which I loved to see. The first half of the movie is full of comedy sequences and it shifts to a serious tone as the movie continues. This movie din't have to end sad. In fact, there was a 50-50 chance that Unni and Gadha would reunite in the end and live happily ever after but Priyadarshan and V. R. Gopalakrishnan the story writer decided to give this movie a sad ending. I could easily cry seeing the ending of this movie as it's painful to watch. I personally sense a similarity between Thalavattam, Chithram and Vandanam. First of all, they're all Lalettan movies. In addition, they're directed by Priyadarshan. Furthermore, they have Nedumudi Venu, MG Soman and Sukumari as supporting actors and lastly, they all end sad.

Plot stolen from the Hollywood movie "Stakeout". Last day I saw this movie on Zee studio.I was not at all surprised Priyadardshan's Boeing Boeing(Malayalam),Garam Masala(Hindi) and Chandralekha had stolen plot. As usual he had made minute changes like villain becomes heroine's father for vandanam and the climax has a bit of changes. Also hero and heroin is separated in the climax of vandanam. Whereas in Stakeout the hero and heroin remains one. Also in stakeout the hero is a bit older than mohanlal in vandanam. The climax of stakeout doesn't have the bomb planting etc.In stakeout the help for villain comes from outside the jail. but in vandanam the villain gets help from an insider of the jail. If you exclude these things both the movies are the same.

This movie came in the wake of Chitram's super success. It starts off with plenty of comedic routines by Mohanlal and Mukesh, and then the plot unfolds. The highlight of the film is the last scene (can't tell you that). Definitely worth watching.
Priyadarshan too has also made greetings. From the beginning of the film a lot of laughter and finally the movie that weighed the audience. Mohanlal is an Unnikrishnan sir. Unnikrishnan approached his daughter to catch the jail climber. This closer becomes love. Several crises are decided and decided to get together. But they can not get together because the phone call is not available at the right time. Even in the middle of the traffic block, the hero is not even seeing each other. We do not even forget background music on this scenario.
