Joana Fomm in Césio 137 - O Pesadelo de Goiânia (1990)

Trivia

Césio 137 - O Pesadelo de Goiânia

Edit
Final film directed by Roberto Pires, himself a victim of the real tragedy depicted on this film, a cancer caused by exposition to Césio 137's radiation.
Maria Gabriela Ferreira (portrayed by Joana Fomm) is considered a hero - she was the first one to notice that the radioactive material was making people sick. This was decisive against its radiation spreading in much larger proportions, and for medical authorities to locate its source much faster. In the movie, however, it is her neighbor Santana (formerly a nurse) who first insists on it being the cause of everybody falling ill.
The Cesius 137 survivors have faced strong prejudice over the years. Odesson Alves Ferreira (Devair's brother) was forced into retirement at age 32 and, according to himself, the medical worker from his job avoided to get his documents from his hand.
Devair's brother Odesson Alves Ferreira (a survivor) was reportedly a big fan of science fiction prior to the accident. He could not help but not associating the accident with them afterwards.
The incident depicted on this movie likely inspired Thine Own Self (1994) as well as The Deadly Glow (1992). "Deadly glow" is almost exactly how victim Devair Ferreira described his fascination with blue radioactive material: "I fell in love with death's glow."
