When I hear of THE LANDLORD, I think of the all-but-forgotten Hal Ashby movie that launched his brilliant career. But porn fans have to contend with this soon-after opus, a truly forgettable XXX exercise revived on Vol. 114 of Something Weird's Dragon Art Theatre series.
It's all about a creepy landlord who it turns out is more of a pimp than rent collector. He owns some suburban bungalows and when the lady renter gets behind, he offers her a deal -if she prostitutes herself for him and his string of high rollers, he'll waive the rent and even throw in some pin money for her.
First victim of this arrangement is lovely Lilly Foster aka Antoinette Maynard. She succumbs to the sleazy arrangement, and also gets her pal & neighbor Sue (Dalana Bissonnette) to follow suit.
Bissonnette is even less-sung than Lilly; I've seen her make a very good impression in several XXX films, notably THE SEA NYMPH, BETWEEN YOU AND ME and HOOKER'S HOLIDAY, but she never got a crack at the big time. Here she is stunning, a beautiful redhead who enjoys her hardcore work.
Fly in the ointment comes about in the form of guest star Brigitte Maier, very early in her career, as a woman who has an affair with the landlord and then schemes with him in terms of an exit strategy. It results in one of two plot surprises in the final reel, not quality twists in the O. Henry tradition, but suitably diverting for a porn audience.
With three beautiful and ultra-arousing leading ladies THE LANDLORD can't miss. Its male casting is for the birds, however, with title figure basically a mustache plus frequently-ejaculating dick, and little more, while Sue's husband possesses the ugliest cock in porn memory -this anonymous creep should be auditioning for horror films about leprosy, perhaps a remake of THE DUNGEON OF HORROR?
