Concept artist Norman Felch came up with Alice's original design. McGee approved of it because unlike other submitted concepts it wasn't overly sexualised or animesque. After her gothic art style was decided upon, the other character's designs easily followed suit.
The score was composed by Chris Vrenna, drummer for Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. Using antique children's toy instruments.
The main character's name, Alice Lidell, shares the name with the real Alice from which the original novel is based on and shares some physical similarities. Obviously, the treatment given to the character in the game is entirely fictional.
The original cover art of Alice with the Vorpal Blade is the most treasured followed by the one of her holding the Ice Wand. A third reworking depicting her holding cards is less sought after.
Marilyn Manson was originally involved scoring the music for the game before the deal fell through. His composition although unreleased has been described by American McGee as "very cool" and having "a very beautiful Beatles-in-their-harpsichord-and-Hookah-pipe-days-sound to it". Manson's drummer at the time Chris Vrenna was hired instead.
