Actor Ajit(Lion)Khan made an impresive comback with this film (he had retired from films 10 years back) when he came back he acted with new actors like Jackie Shrofff, Paresh Rawail, Sadashiv Amrapurkar Gulsjan Grover & others. After this he signed another Major Big Film Navketan's Gangster. He had worked several times with the Anands Brothers.
Jackie Shroff was skeptical about his pairing with Karishma Kapoor. But producer Salim was adamant that she be in the film. The film turned out to be a surprise blockbuster.
Producer Salim Akhtar bashed Subash Ghai badly in the media after the film released. Salim revealed that Ghai would constantly ask Jackie to cancel the shooting dates and give them to Khal Nayak. Salim stated it was very unethical thing to do but Subash Ghai constantly did this despite Jackie's refusal.
A similar star cast was repeated after the 1991 movie Izzat. The difference was, Goga Kapoor played the corrupt police officer in this movie and Raza Murad played the honest police officer, in Izzat Goga Kapoor played the honest police officer and Raza Murad played the corrupt police officer. The leading lady in this movie was Karishma Kapoor not Sangeeta Bijlani, the main villain was Ajit, Gulshan Grover's role was more serious in this movie than it was in Izzat and Aruna Irani had more of a full fledged in this movie whereas in Izzat she appeared only for the first few minutes
