Amjad Khan claimed he did not have a good role in the film as he was barely in the movie. The producer added him in at the end to cash in on his newly found Gabbar Singh stardom. But his daughter Ahlam refuted this stating Amjad signed Charas during the making of Sholay. Ramesh Sippy requested Ramanand Sagar to release Charas after Sholay released.
