This film featured the third-biggest Polish film opening in the 3 years preceding its release. It is estimated that well over 2 million people saw the film in theatres.
The cast and crew used about 500 litres of water each day of shooting. That made 40,000 litres in total for the duration of filming.
All up, 50,000 kilometres were traveled while making this film.
During shooting the film in Johannesburg director Maciej Dutkiewicz had a sudden great pain in his kidneys and had to go to hospital. Although his condition improved, he was not allowed to continue his work on the set. The producers decided to go on with the shooting and replaced Dutkiewicz with the young South African director Gavin Hood.
200 kilometres of material was used for costumes and other decorations.
