Trivia

A Padroeira

Edit
Has never been on reruns on Globo TV, but was broadcast in 2017 on TV Aparecida - a Catholic network named after the saint seen on the series. Globo gave them the series for free, in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the saint discovery in the river. This was the first time in history that a Globo TV drama was aired on a different channel in Brazil.
Final collaboration between creator Walcyr Carrasco and director Walter Avancini. They had previously worked on Xica da Silva (1996) and The Thorn and the Rose (2000), all period dramas. Avancini had to leave the series and died of prostate cancer in September 2001. Roberto Talma took over.
Series creator Walcyr Carrasco is himself an Our Lady Revealed devotee.
The story behind Our Lady Revealed had been adapted as a Caso Verdade (1983) episode, also titled "A Padroreira". The characters João Alves, Filipe Pedroso and Atanásio appear in both adaptations.
Based on José de Alencar's novel which had previously been adapted as As Minas de Prata (1966) - but with the religious devotion to Our Lady Revealed added to the story. The story is also inspired by "Romeu and Juliet" and "La Dame de Monsoreau".
