100,000 cobbers was a wartime film commissioned by the Curtin Government in Australia, intended to boost recruitment at a time when WW2 was very much in the balance, as well as boosting morale on the home front. The short itself was made specifically for theatrical release.
More a docudrama, it was shot under extreme difficulty at Sydney's Liverpool military camp by master director Ken Hall's stalwart camera man, Bert Nicholas. The integration of professional actors Ron Randell, Grant Taylor and Shirley Anne Richards with other full time army personnel was not without its difficulties but the finished product gives little away.
The film was released just ahead of the Oscar winning KOKODA FRONT LINE.
