This is first time Madhuri Dixit and Manisha Koirala worked together after their alleged rivalry in the 90's. Manisha was also supposed to work with Madhuri in Dil toh pagal hai but she opted out of the project.
Tabu was initially offered the role Mahima eventually did in the film, but turned it down because Rajkumar Santoshi was offering a remuneration lower than her market price.
The following statement appears before the film begins. As it is being displayed, a voice-over (presumably that of the statement's author) reads it in Hindi : "None of the characters or situations depicted in this film are imaginary or fictional, really speaking. They are echoes of what is happening all around us in our so called civilized society. At best, these voices - cries, and shrieks, pleas and whispers - have been amplified for deaf people to take note.
