The film was shot on actual locations like the barracks, condemned cells and the gallows. Surprisingly the critics wrote the sets looked artificial, when they were not.
Pran was so fascinated with his role in the film, he charged only rupees 1000 for the film. A unheard of amount for such a huge star .Pran had a sister who lived in Ludhiana and spent lakhs of rupees from his own pocket on food and drinks for the films unit.
The prime minister Shashtrii agreed to come to the films premiere for 10 minutes. However once watching the film he was so engrossed he sat thru the entire film. Manoj Kumar had to tell the operator to not stop the film for a interval.
