As the bogus but sensational sex scandal unfolds, PR guru Max Clifford is mentioned several times. Clifford represented the woman making the allegations against the Hamiltons and Christine says that she isn't at all surprised that he is involved in this. Louis went to on to make When Louis Met... Max Clifford (2002) the following year, in which Christine herself is mentioned when Clifford jokes to someone that Louis was having an affair with her.
In one scene, Neil Hamilton derides Conservative Party leadership candidate Michael Ancram, calling him "a bloated old fart". This was during the 2001 Conservative Party leadership election (won by Iain Duncan Smith), during which Louis Theroux was also filming When Louis Met... Ann Widdecombe (2002) which showed her in support of Ancram. He was eliminated in the first ballot.
