The film was released on the day of Hindu's popular festival Deepavali, 2 November 1994.
In the song "Mottu Vitatha" from the movie Pavithra, at 0:25 A.R. Rahman was inspired by Biddu's song "Dance of Shiva". A.R. Rahman sampled Dance of Shiva's tune at 0:40 and got singer Swarnlatja to hum Biddu's tune.
