It transpired that the depicted story was incomplete. Harold Shipman was convicted and imprisoned in 2000 and this TV movie was made during the following year and broadcast in 2002. On 13 January 2004 Harold Shipman hanged himself in his cell after having served just less than four years of his life sentence.
