There was supposed to be a unification match between Tajiri (Yoshihiro Tajiri) and X-Pac (Sean Waltman) for both the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship and the WCW Cruiserweight Championship, but X-Pac was injured about one week before the pay-per-view, so the match was scrapped. As a result, the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship was retired, while the WCW Cruiserweight Championship was renamed the WWF/WWE Cruiserweight Championship.
In the Sunday Night Heat match, Raven (Scott Levy), Lance Storm, and Justin Credible (P.J. Polaco)) (with Terri) defeated Albert (Matt Bloom), Scotty 2 Hotty (Scott Taylor), and Spike Dudley (Matt Hyson). Five of the participants in this match would go on to compete in the Immunity Battle Royal on the PPV.
