Tippi Hedren and Jennie Fahn in Tea with Grandma (2001)

Tea with Grandma

9/10

Young woman and grandma share dark secrets.

This is a great little thriller in the Hitchcock tradition with a dark sense of comedy. Ms. Fahn and Ms. Hedren play wonderfully off of each other, laughing one minute, sharing some harrowing (and sickly funny) story the next. Both characters come off so sweet and innocent at first that it's hard not to like them and feel like joining them yourself for a cup of tea, but beware! These ladies are not as sweet as a cup of Darjeeling with honey! After an afternoon together, they've spilled more than just a little sugar, and their secrets loom over the nutmeg-scented kitchen heavier than smoke from a burnt casserole. Keep your sense of humor on for this one and have a nice ride.

Deliciously twisted tale

What starts out as a sweet story of a young woman visiting her grandmother for a cozy session of tea and reminiscences turns into a hilariously shocking tale of revenge and murder. Fahn and Hedren are both marvelous, and I hope they do more together, maybe a remake of "Who Slew Auntie Roo?"

recommended for Hitchcock afficianados

Very good hommage to Hitchcock touches and with humor. Miss Hedren has very expressive eyes and Miss Fahn's reactions to grandma are priceless! Recommended for all Hitchcock fans. very good use of visuals. I hope to see more from this director and hope he makes a habit of using nostalgic hommage.

Brilliant Performances

Tippi Hedren won the New York International Independent Film and Video Best Actress 2002 Award for Best Actress and Jennie Fan won for Supporting Actress. Both are brilliant in this Hitchcockian black comedy. They play off of each other so well. Grandma just isn't as sweet as she appears and neither is Granddaughter. Jonathan Fahn also won for best director. It's a great little film that can be viewed on You Tube. So good!
