Native Punjabi Dharmendra, who became a big star in Hindi films, came back to his home state of Punjab to make his Punjabi debut with this film.
Asha Parekh was a major star in Hindi films when she agreed to make a cameo in this film, purely as a favor to her friend Dharmendra, since they starred together in five hit films. It was considered a big deal, since she was at the height of her career, having just won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Kati Patang (1970). She would make one more Punjabi film a few years later, but she wasn't all that comfortable delivering Punjabi dialogue, since she wasn't fluent.
The film is shot mostly in black and white. However, there are a couple of color scenes with actors Dharmendra and Asha Parekh
