When the film received its one market screening the night before the start of the Cannes film festival, the entire audience walked out five minutes into the movie.
Director Robbie Moffat turned down video deals with several major UK distributors, because he felt that as an independent picture it was important that unemployed Scots could afford to see a picture detailing their own history 'to give them some of their national pride back'. He chose to distribute the film both through his own website and through Amazon.co.UK at a nominal charge to cover the basic cost of postage and pressing the disc.

Instead of calling action on the set, the director would say Ayo Gorkhali and instead of cut he would say Jaya Mahakali, the famous Gurkha war cry, in an effort to channel their warrior spirit into the film.
