- Steven Spielberg - Co-Presenter: Honorary Award to Akira Kurosawa: This year the Academy's Board of Governors have voted an Honorary Academy Award to a man who many of us believe is our greatest living filmmaker, and all of us know if one of the few true visionaries ever to work in our medium.
- Alan Menken - Winner: Best Original Score and Best Original Song: First of all I'd like to thank my collaborator Howard Ashman who encouraged me to take the opportunity to compose my first film score with "The Little Mermaid."
