FAQ

American Wedding

FAQ

Having just graduated from college, Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) asks his nympho girlfriend Michelle Flaherty (Alyson Hannigan) to marry him, and she accepts. Best friends Kevin Myers (Thomas Ian Nicholas) and Paul Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) agree to be groomsmen, but they cautiously keep the wedding a secret from their obnoxious friend Steve Stifler (Seann William Scott), fearing that he might ruin everything. Unfortunately, Stifler finds out and immediately starts planning Jim's bachelor party.

American Wedding, aka American Pie 3: The Wedding, is the third movie in the American Pie series, preceded by American Pie (1999) (1999) and American Pie 2 (2001) (2001) and followed by American Reunion (2012) (2012). Created by American screenwriter Adam Herz, who based it on his own high school experiences in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, Herz also wrote the screenplay for American Wedding.

There are different reasons that certain characters/actors were not included in this installment. The writers said they were unable to develop working stories for such a large cast, and many were not included on purpose. The most obvious missing character is Oz (Chris Klein), who is one of Jim's best friends and would likely be at his wedding. Klein opted not to return for American Wedding because the script didn't really utilize his character. As for a cameo, production stated there was no money in the budget to fly him overseas just for a few scenes. Within the American Pie reality, it is stated in a draft of the script that Oz and Heather are in Europe, but this information never made it to film. It is logical that certain other characters were not invited to the wedding. Vicky, Jessica, and Chuck Sherman were likely excluded, since they were not close friends with Jim or Michelle. Nadia would likely not be invited due to her history with Jim, but she is mentioned in a conversation between Jim and his dad.

In Hebrew, "shiva" means "seven". In Judaism, sitting shiva is a week-long mourning period for the death of someone in the immediate family.

Thanks to Stifler and the football team, the flowers are replaced, and the wedding goes off without further problems. As Michelle and her father walk down the aisle, Grandma (Angela Paton) is in good spirits, thanks to Stifler. Stifler supplies the ring, and Michelle and Jim say their vows. On the dance floor, Jim shows his new movements, thanks to Stifler's coaching. Finch is surprised when Stifler's mom (Jennifer Coolidge) shows up and invites him to her suite upstairs. In the final scene, Justin (Justin Isfeld) and John (John Cho) peek in the window and watch Finch making love to Stifler's Mom.

Unlike the first two films of the series, this film did not require cuts to get the R rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for the theatrical release. The producers decided to create a new, longer version for the DVD release, though. With more than 8 minutes of new material this version adds more humor and sexual content to the film.
