Mark Addy would often call up Jami Gertz's mother to learn how to say certain words with a Midwest accent since Gertz's mother is from Chicago. Since Addy is from England, he had to be careful with certain words that were easy to slip back into his English accent.
Will Arnett was cast in the original pilot as a friend of Bill's, but he was fired when the pilot was picked up and his scenes were deleted.
The pilot episode was filmed/taped on the set of Yes, Dear, also a sitcom that aired on CBS. Once Still Standing was picked up as a series, new sets were created.
All episode titles begin with the word "Still".
Jami Gertz's character's name, "Judy Miller," was also the name of the little-girl character created by Gilda Radner on Saturday Night Live (1975). This tie may be a tribute to Radner, whom Gertz played in the TV movie Gilda Radner: It's Always Something (2002).
