Director Jeff Rector said he pictured a dark-haired Elvira type character for the Temptress. So he decided to contact Elvira herself, Cassandra Peterson, about doing it, but she wasn't interested. He auditioned 40 to 50 other actresses and really liked Tane McClure, but hesitated because she was a natural blonde. After testing her with a black wig, he felt she was perfect and cast her.
