Trivia

Carry on Christmas

Edit
The rehearsals for this seasonal offering were held in a yacht club, just down the road from the actual studios.
Frankie Howerd's asides to camera and to the audience were ad libbed.
After a number of rehearsals it was recorded in front of an invited audience at Teddington Studios on the 14th December, Editing was completed by the 19th, 5 days before it's Christmas Eve broadcast.
In the original draft, Barbara Windsor was earmarked as Glory, Scrooge's cousin and Bernard Bresslaw would be Fagin leading Scrooge into a life of crime. Charles Hawtrey would have played Oliver Twist, whose pocket Scrooge picks. Terry Scott would be a haughty school teacher, with Barbara as a sexy pupil. Talbot Rothwell removed a lot of the Dickensian material and replaced it with a Hammer horror pantomime.
Kenneth Williams was unable to appear, as he was already under contract with the BBC, so his role was given to Frankie Howerd.
