I've seen several of the seven shorts Karl Dane made with George Arthur and I have yet to really enjoy any of them. Part of it's the pairing themselves. Why pair a Brit with a Danish guy who seems to barely be able to speak English? Part of it is the writing....the films seem ill-conceived and dull. And, "Dumbbells in Debries" is no exception, though one or two scenes made me chuckle a bit.
The beginning of the film is a mess...with missing credits and come badly degraded film stock. It seems the pair are working in an oil field and decide to go to town...where they think they witness a murder.
This short simply isn't very funny (apart from the guys hopping into the tube bit)...and the fairing the guns wildly bit was incredibly unfunny and dumb. I still am baffled at who thought pairing these unfunny guys was a good idea. Try the films yourself.... I have a feeling you'll agree with me.
