The worst Brazilian comedy ever!

For quite a long time Casseta & Planeta stop being funny. All their jokes now are based in "trocadilhos" (playing with the meaning of the words). Besides that, you could predict all the jokes that they made. Like the one where the army stops the girl's car to see the "triangle". This film also reflects a time where the are no good comedians and humorists in the big media of Brasil. If you want to laugh, you gotta go to sites like Cocadaboa or Malvados, and avoid at any costs this load of crap. It looks like this movie was made just for using the funds of the federal government and display merchandises. This movie doesn't worth a CDR. If you guys want a good Brazilian comedy, go watch "O Auto da Compadecida" or the good old Mazaroppi movies.

These guys have guts!

This movie is for people that do not take politics too seriously. And also for those who are OK with jokes that obviously refer to marijuana, for anyone old enough to understand them. These guys have guts, and I'll tell you why.

The Military Rule in Brazil was no fun at all, if you were a communist, or even a person who likes democracy. I was too young to notice, but people were simply getting killed, or vanishing, and sometimes even the Government did not know who was responsible. There were underground organizations of both right and left-wing radicals raising hell, and the media were censored. Some on the left were just too unexperienced to really help in the fight, but they tried anyway. This movie laughs about it.

Of course, the ridiculed bad guys in this movie are in the Brazilian Army, defending the Dictatorship. But the heroes are a bunch of delusional idiots, and I am sure some communists will hate to see their political faith laughed about in this way. I am not sure this will translate well for international audiences. But I am glad these guys had the courage to laugh about it. And I believe in the healing power of humor

Important comedy to the Brazilian People

Brazil lived through a dictatorship that began in 1964 and span for two decades. It's recent history and nobody yet had the courage to sting it. The people from the Brazilian TV comedy "Casseta & Planeta" were courageous enough to turn a sad period into a nice comedy. Besides making fun of the dictatorship, they put a lot of period references into the film: such as props, ads, facts and songs. It was brilliant to see them expose how the Military used Brazil's triumph in soccer to manipulate public opinion. This is a nice movie even if you only read about the period. It probably won't appeal to international audiences, but if you are a Brazilian, it's definitely a must see. Laughter is a great medicine to heal spiritual wounds.
