The film had trouble finding a distributor for theatrical release in Pakistan, due to perceived lack of market. Despite this the filmmakers organized 41 free screenings throughout small towns and villages all across the country, starting with a premiere in Wah, where the film was shot.
Indian distributor Shringar Films initially intended to dub the film in Hindi for local release, but eventually decided to release it with its original Punjabi audio with English subtitles.
The film's production was suspended due to the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York City, when the film's international cast & crew were asked to return to their own countries for their safety. Production was able to resume some six months later.
Originally meant to be shot in Urdu, the film's screenplay was written in English and translated by Shoaib Hashmi. However, upon feeling that the Urdu script didn't have "enough power in the words", writer/director Sabiha Sumar asked Hashmi to translate it into Punjabi and learned the language herself.
Lead actor Aamir Malik later became addicted to drugs and alcohol and lived as a homeless vagrant in the streets of Karachi despite many attempts by friends and peers to help him. He died on January 6, 2016 in his hometown of Quetta, where friends had taken him the month prior to be hospitalized.
