During Peter the Great's Azov Campaign of 1695 Russian soldiers are seen priming their muskets with percussion caps. Percussion caps were not invented until 1830.

Very fast moving and entertaining. Easy to assimilate information. Music was fantastic. Music was actually my favourite part. as the story journey from the monguls to Peter the Great, so did the music. Very smart homages to Tchaichovsky & Prokofiev.

I also liked the reenactments, though they did start to get a little samey. Most importantly it taught me things about Russia I didn't know.

For an American TV show I thought this was rather exceptional.

The only down side was that I wish it was a longer show so there could be more time spent on each period. I would have also liked it to go to present day Russia
