    Not too troublesome.

Number 18 of the Troublesome Night movies is not entirely bad, certainly not one of the worse in the series. Series regular Tong Kai Fai returns as Bud Gay once more, playing the usual partying type, this time hanging around with gangster Kong Lik Son (Michael Tong). Son has a sixth sense and has gotten in trouble in meddling in the affairs with a female ghost (Kit Yee Chung), who is attempting to help her young son reincarnate.

The movie starts off rather slow, with more of the disco and partying scenes, but finally picks up steam when the ghost takes center stage and Son finds himself possessed and haunted by the restless spirits. When Lan Law, who once again returns as Bud Lung, finally shows up, the movie picks up a notch. Even series veteran Frankie Ng returns to the series after a 10-film absence, playing gang leader Ng Chi Hung. Too bad the gangster angle in the story wasn't emphasized enough.

The acting wasn't bad and much of the actors from the last several films return, with the fortunate exception of Oni Tsuka and Mr. Nine. Their big-mouth characters of Brother Eight and Brother Nine were noticeably absent in the film and is a welcome departure! Overall, it's a slow-paced movie, but the plot is actually in existence, the ghost themes were rather suspenseful, and a lot of the overly sexual and flirting overtones that have consumed the last several films have been eliminated.

    Grade C-
