Remake of The Baby Maker.
Shabana Azmi sat with Lekh Tandon and worked on the script for months. Finally when it came time to shoot the film, Shabana did not have the dates for 6 months and her secretary asked Lekh Tandon to wait. Seeking a replacement, a furious Tandon approached Rekha, Parveen and Smita Patil but none of them had the dates available. When Shabana got to know about this she cleared the misunderstanding with Tandon and was back in the film.
One of the rare times that Shabana played the other woman and not the wife. One of two movies where she costarred with Sharmila, Gulzar's Namkeen being the other one.
First film to have surrogacy topic.
Chori Chori Chupke Chupke 2001 was inspired from this film.
