It was Shakti Kapoor's first film.
Shabana Azmi was a relative newcomer at the time and was not cast opposite Dharmendra. Her then boy friend Uday Chandra (Dhruv) played the romantic lead opposite her. Hema malini made a guest appearance as Dharmendra's love interest. Shabana has played Dharmendra's love interest only once, in the 1987 film Mardonwaali Baat.
Shabana Azmi insisted when she signed the film, Uday Chandra was already signed. She had nothing to do with him getting signed.
The background music from the car repair scene appeared as "Punjabis, Pimps & Players" in the compilation album Bombay The Hard Way: Guns, Cars & Sitars.
Shakti Kapoor signed the film while he was still at the acting institute. The film was shot in Jackie Shroff's neighborhood. Jackie had heard a new handsome actor was shooting a film near by. He went with friends to see who the actor was. There he saw a handsome Shakti shooting the film. Jackie was in awe of Shakti and felt he looked more like a lead hero then a side actor.
