The part of Bhawani Singh was to be played by Pran but latter Sultan Ahmed decided that Raaj Kumar should do it. It is said during shooting, Raaj Kumar was required to hold an diamond neckless so was given a fake neckless, Jaani refused, he doesnt hold fake things, he insisted on real diamond neckless he was given than he agreed to shoot. Raaj Kumar used to call Sultan Ahmed Jaani Mughal E Azam.
During the mahurat of this film in 1978 the shot was to be taken on Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan was to give the clap. Rajesh Khanna didn't want to reach at the sets before Amitabh Bachchan so so everytime he calls to inquire if Amitabh Bachchan had reached ? On the othet end also Amitabh Bachchan had the same problem, he would call to inquire if Rajesh Khanna had reached, Amitabh Bachchan wanted he.should reach after Rajesh Khanna, here Sultan Ahmed became restless. Than Amitabh Bachchan came and at the same moment Rajesh Khanna came and the mahurat shot was picturised on him and Amitabh Bachchan gave the clap. Sultan Ahmed got releif.
During the making of Dharam Kanta, Sultan Ahmed announced that he will make ' Sahebzaade Salim Anarkali with music by Naushd and will have, Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, but this film was shelved. Rajesh Khanna suggested that Sultan Ahmed take Dimple for the film. Sultan Ahmed told Rajesh he would take Dimple only if Rajesh Khanna would play the lead role.
Amitabh Bachchan was offered the film but he was busy with a another film. Pran was signed but then he was replaced by Raaj Kumar
Sultan Ahmed wanted nobody else, only Actor Om Prakash to act in one scene before the credit tittles. Usually Om Prakash acts in whole films and Om Prakash insisted his market price as others will pay him less, he didn't want to spoil his price. Sultan Ahmed paid Om Prakash the full market price.
