The film, written and directed by Michael S. Ojeda, shows a sure sense of noir style and a toughness that lasts right up to the very final scene, which feels contrived and tacked-on.

Harsh but moving drama.

This genuinely ambitious and accomplished Chicago production does have strong points, not the least of which is Lana herself. When the fiery, emotionally transparent Orlenko lets her talent and presence pour down on Lana's Rain, the movie springs to life.

The titular precipitation in Lana’s Rain is a manifestation of the badness in the world -- but here, badness is pure Lifetime Channel.

At roughly the halfway point, the movie turns into a low-budget gangster picture, which sacrifices character and themes to the kind of action mayhem all too commonplace in studio thrillers.

It ends up a grinding, ludicrous depiction of a thuggish Bosnian's abuse of his sister.

Michael S. Ojeda's film is so relentlessly shallow and excessive that it hardly matters whether Lana is eventually able to turn the tables on Darko. When it rains in Lana's Rain, it pours -- and what comes out is trash.

Clumsily under-written and feverishly overacted, it's as embarrassing to watch as it is perplexing.
