absolutely hilarious!

this is a great, forgotten gem starring a young Shekar Suman, who only got fame in the mid-90s as host of TV show 'Movers & Shakers'. he's the horny yet nerdy city goof who is on his way to marry his betrothed (Padmini K) back in the village where both their families live. he wants to try fooling around with her, but she's too much of a tomboy and seemingly devoid of any sexual desire. this may seem like a sleazy scenario and a crude subject matter, but it's dealt with a terrific sense of humor that arises from situations which are achingly real, unlike the forced 'comic' routines that you see in Bollywood films most of the time. the scenes in the bookshop and the shop where he goes to buy condoms, are classic.

if you ever get the chance, do go for this film. unfortunately, it's not on DVD, which is a shame because it deserves to be seen by more people. i was lucky to catch this on 'Z Cinema'. i must find a copy! my rating: 8/10

Good story/direction

This is a dub of Kannada movie by the name 'Anubhava'(1984) by the same director Kashinath. Kashinath always dealt with stories which were considered taboo in those days. Movie deals with extra marital affair, hero's 'kaama' not being satisfied by wife and later wife realizing her husband's need. Whats entertaining is he deals with these with mix of comedy. That makes it enjoyable. There is a scene where hero goes to medical shop to ask for a condom. Even today people might feel shy. Movie needs better marketing to reach more people. But in those days talking about such movies was so hush-hush.

In the Kannada version of the movie Kashinath has himself has acted as hero.

Much talked about sex comedy of the 80s

Anubhav review :

Much before the Masti and Grand Mastis minted money at the ticket counters, Bollywood made a true blue sex comedy called Anubhav which can be counted as Shekhar Suman's first and only box office success.

Shekhar played the street smart sheheri babu who comes home to marry the gaon ki gori Padmini Kolhapure who is naive and unaware of marital life. Fed up with her, Shekhar falls for the village hottie Richa Sharma who accompanies him back to the city and they stay together as husband-wife.

The film became quite controversial for its steamy scenes between Shekhar Suman and the pretty Richa Sharma. Sujit Kumar, the producer, played Shekhar's Mamaji while the buxom Padma Khanna was the mami. Rakesh Roshan turned in a guest appearance.

Anubhav mixed sex and humour seamlessly in the narrative and was lapped up by the audience in the era where there was no internet or OTT content. Its popularity led to many regional remakes later including the Marathi film Shikari as recent as 2018.

I had seen Anubhav during one of its re-runs in late 80s at Kohinoor cinema, Dadar. Interestingly, I saw Shikari also at the same place - Inox Nakshatra - which came up later in place of Kohinoor cinema.

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Comedy and Emotions together

It's a one time wstch movie. It might be a huge hit film at that time but it has slow pace for today's generation. Padmini ma'am's acting was impression. I thought she actually became kid. But you can't watch it with family. Thabk you.
