Godzilla: Final Wars (2004)

FAQ

Godzilla: Final Wars

FAQ

Toho announced upon entering production of Godzilla: Final Wars that they planned to give the series a 9-10 year hiatus before producing another film. Yoshimitsu Banno, the director of Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971), planned to produce an IMAX short film entitled Godzilla 3D to the MAX that would be released in both the United States and Japan around 2009, but was unable to secure funding. Banno approached Legendary Pictures, who signed an agreement with Toho to produce a new American Godzilla film unrelated to the 1998 version. Legendary's Godzilla (2014) was released in 2014, while the company later began production on a sequel for 2018. Toho themselves did not produce another Godzilla film until Shin Godzilla (2016) in 2016.

No. Contrary to popular belief, the final enemy that Godzilla battles in this film is not King Ghidorah, but a similar monster called Keizer Ghidorah. Aside from name, the two creatures share some differences in appearance, most notably the fact that Keizer Ghidorah is quadrupedal while King Ghidorah is bipedal. Early scripts for the film actually included King Ghidorah, but he was replaced with the new monster Keizer Ghidorah, who is heavily based on him.
