Fans might be wondering what’s next for Ryan Reynolds in his role as Deadpool after the colossal success of his MCU entry. Deadpool & Wolverine grossed a total of $1.34 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film in the industry. However, Reynolds has no immediate plans to return to the role in a leading capacity much to Kevin Feige’s dismay.

Instead, Reynolds shared that he would love to play the side character in another potential Marvel movie. He shared his support for Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie and added that he would happily play a side role in the film. Tatum finally got to play the character in Deadpool 3, satisfying longtime fans of the character.

The future of Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains uncertain for the time being. What we do know is that we're probably going to see Ryan Reynolds suit up as Wade Wilson again in the future, one way or another. That's because "Deadpool & Wolverine" became the biggest R-rated movie ever this year, taking in more than $1.3 billion worldwide. It's second only to "Inside Out 2" globally this year. So yes, Disney and Marvel will back up the money truck to get him back. But what shape will that take?

Reynolds has some ideas. He recently sat down with Andrew Garfield for an interview as part of Variety's "Actors on Actors" series. Garfield is no stranger to Marvel either, having appeared in "The Amazing Spider-Man" films before that franchise flamed out, and later finding redemption in "Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Tye Sheridan played Scott Summers/Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool 2, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

With the X-Men joining the MCU after Avengers: Secret Wars, fans are still waiting to find out if the old X-Men actors will return or if new ones will take over the roles.

So far, we’ve seen Patrick Stewart reprise his role as Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

We’ve also seen Beast appear in The Marvels mid-credits scene, played by Kelsey Grammer, who previously played Hank in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Most recently, many X-Men characters have shown up in Deadpool & Wolverine. Hugh Jackman returned as Logan, Brianna Hildebrand reprised her role as Negasonic Teenage Warhead from Deadpool and Deadpool 2, and we also saw Colossus, Shatterstar, X-23, and Gambit.

Marvel Studios has been sitting on the Ghost Rider rights for years, allowing Marvel Television to use the Robbie Reyes version in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a brief spell. Recently, however, rumours have persisted that Johnny Blaze is being lined up to make his MCU debut.

A definitive answer has yet to be revealed, but Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds revealed on Entertainment Weekly’s “Awardist” podcast that Marvel executives are quite high on Tatum after his Gambit debut in this summer’s record-breaking tentpole “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

“I honestly don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in the bookkeeping sessions at Marvel, but I do know that they’re obsessed with him in that role,” Reynolds said. “It’s kind of like the same situation I went through. Once you show that it works well, that’s really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action.”

“And Channing is so singular in how he plays that character,” Reynolds added, “but also he’s so beautiful physically, the way he moves and the way he can pick up steps.

After a slew of underwhelming releases from the MCU, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the years. Not only did it reignite the spark in the MCU, but the film further realized Channing Tatum’s long-lost dream of playing Gambit onscreen.

One of the most feared beings in all existence is actively recruiting in Marvel Comics' new What If...? comic book series. Next January, a series of one-shots dares to ask the question: What if Galactus turned some of Marvel's best and brightest heroes into his new cosmic heralds?

Silver Surfer is, of course, the most well-known Herald to Galactus, though the likes of Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, and the Human Torch have also briefly served the Devourer of Worlds over the years.
