Red Arrow production house takes flight
MOSCOW -- Red Arrow, a new Russian production house, launched here Tuesday with its founders predicting strong growth and rising investor interest in local filmmaking. Director Valery Todorovsky (The Spot, My Step-Brother Frankenstein) and producer Vadim Goryainov said the new company -- named after the famous Krasnaya Strela (Red Arrow) express train that connects Moscow and St. Petersburg -- plans to take advantage of an anticipated three-fold increase in sources of financial support for local film within the next five years. Goryainov, who headed publishing house Prof-Media between 1997 and 2004 before going into producing, said forecasts suggest that the value of Russian film's share of annual sales and support sources will grow to $630 million by 2012 from $220 million today.
