As the title indicates, the "Mr. Men" book series originally focused on male characters. An accompanying series of "Little Miss" books was added in 1981, focusing on female characters.
Reginald Hargreaves wrote and illustrated the original "Mr. Men" books from 1971 until his death in 1988. His son Adam Hargreaves has since continued the series into the 21st century.
